Measles Outbreak in Texas: CDC Responds as Cases Rise to 159

 The measles outbreak in Texas has escalated, with 159 confirmed cases and 22 hospitalizations reported as of March 4, 2025. The outbreak has also led to the tragic death of a school-aged child—the first measles-related fatality in the U.S. since 2015. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has deployed experts on the ground to assist local health authorities in controlling the spread of the disease. CDC's Rapid Response and Public Health Measures The CDC has partnered with the Texas Department of State Health Services through an "Epi-Aid" initiative. This allows the agency’s Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) officers to work directly with local officials for up to three weeks, offering crucial support in decision-making and outbreak management.
